St. Jacob Stenugnsbageri

St. Jacob is the perfect fik /café. All the breads are delicious, the staff is relaxed and as one customer explained to me - "They are always very present". The setting makes you want to linger.  A huge window faces the street, cushions on benches line the wall with and low Moroccan style tables. If you like something sweet with your coffee, try the Mazarins, the Cardamom buns or the Coconut tops with large pieces of dark chocolate. If you like to buy some bread, then choose the Levain.

Mattias Mårtensson is the creative baker behind the bread. He started in Stockholm with a bakery where  people lined up as if there were a rationing of bread. In 2008, he moved back to Lund and made a hype in this tiny town. People wondered who would take over after Bengtsson's Cheese Shop, now across the street. The place looked like a building site but had no information in the window. When they finally opened, no one could call, because there was no telephone; nor was there a name for the bakery. Later on they took on the name of the block.

It used to be rather cramped when they baked in the shop. Two bakers in a room which contains one person at a time. After a while the store next door was for rent. Possibly their customers could not get passed the queue to St. Jacob's bakery. But now there is plenty of room where one might stay for a while and even enjoy a refill or two.
